Lip Enhancement

Lip enhancement is one of our most populat treatments at DermaSecrets.  Whether you are after a well defined volumious pout or a subtle natural enhancement, we have various premium range dermal fillers and the skill/expertise to help you achieve your desired look.

All the dermal fillers we use are premium brands and bought from regulated pharmacies in the UK.  Our preferred brands are Teoysal and Juvederm as these offer, in our opinion, the best results with the strongest evidence base for their use.

A “one size fits all approach” is not suitable when enhancing lips, and for that reason, we use a variety of techiniqes to help achieve different looks.  These include the Russin technique, HD lips, and tenting to name but a few.  Dr Vicki Gordon will discuss the technique(s) most suitable for you at your appointment and explain the process as your prcoeed with treatment.

FAQ

AM I SUITABLE FOR LIP ENHANCEMENT?

Prior to any treatment you will be asked to fill out a medical questionnaire and will have a consultation and targeted facial examination to ensure your suitability.  We will also need to know all medications you are prescribed, so it can helpful to take a list of these along to you appointment.

It is also important that you inform us of any previous lip enhancement traetment you have had, including who acrried out the procedure, when, and what product was used.  Please have this information available prior to attending your appointment.

DO YOU OFFER A FOLLOW UP APPOINTMENT?

Follow up appointments are always available should patients wish to discuss any aspect of their treatment.  These can be booked direct through our website.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO SEE THE RESULTS?

The results of treatment with dermal filler can generally be seen immediately however we advise patients to wait two weeks before they evaluate the outcome of their treatment.  Swelling and brusing can occur which may give a false impression of the overall look of your lips hence why we advise you to wait that two week period.

HOW LONG DO THE RESULTS LAST?

The effects of dermal fillers can vary from 6-12 months and depends on various factors including the product used.  It is not possible to give any guarantee about how long the results of your treatmemt will last.  Over time the dermal filler with naturally start to dissolve and disperse and your result will gradually deminish.

WHAT PRODUCT AND AMOUNT SHOULD I CHOOSE?

DermaSecrets only offers premium brand fillers so you can trust that any product we use has a good safety margin and a strong evidence base.  We do not select our products based on their price and hence we do not offer many of the cheap fillers that you may have heard of.  The old saying “its cheap for a reason” is very true!

Dr Vicki Gordon will advise you on what product and what amount of filler will be best for you depending on the look you want to achieve, the current condition of your lips, and any previous treatments you have had.  Please note that we will not inject more than 1ml into lips in any one appointment.  In our experience, it is best to build up lips over a period of time, and a minimum of two weeks is required between treatments.

DOES IT HURT?

Prior to your treatment, a topical anaesthetic will be applied to your lips which will help reduce any pain.  All the dermal fillers we use contain lidocaine, a local anaeshetic, which helps further numb the lips once treatment commences.

Whilst you will still feel some mild discomfort during the procedure, the vast majority of our patients say the prcedure is not as bad as expected and any discomfort is over very quickly.

HOW LONG IS THE APPOINTMENT?

Our lip enhancement appointments are 30 mins long.  This includes an initial consultation and the treatment itself.  If you would like to simply disucss lip enhancement, and not have treatment on the same day, then please select New Patient Consultation when booking an appointment.

WHAT ARE THE SIDE EFFECTS?

The most common side effects from lip enhancement are bruising and swelling.  We advise all our patients to expect this and not to plan any major events in the few days after treatment.  You may be lucky and experience very little swelling and no brusing but it is better to be prepared for it.  Arnica cream can be applied after treatment to help with bruising and a cold compress or ice pack can help reduce swelling.  Another side efefct experienced by some patients is lumps in their lips.  Prior to leaving our clinic your lips will be massaged to ensure their are no obvious lumps in the dermal filler.  Lumps can however appear at a later date, and firm massage may be required to smooth these out.  In the events of any significant lump that does not respond to massage, physical extraction or dissolving of the filler may be required.

Please note that whilst we try our best to achieve symmetry in the lips we cannot guarentee this will always be the case. After treatment you are very likley to examine your lips in minute detail and spot any minor asymmetry.  We cannot correct slight asymmetries, as in our experience this only creates further problems, however if there is a very obvious asymmetry in our opinion, then we will do our best to correct this.

Described above are the most common side effects of dermal filler.  This list is not exhautstive and further imformation is provided in the Patient Information and Consent Form.

CAN THERE BE COMPLICATIONS?

Yes.  Complications can and do occur.  These can include, but are not limited to, vascular occlusion, whereby a blood vessel is compromised by placement of the filler, and infection.  It is vital that you ensure your treatmet is carried out by a medical professional that has the skill and expertise to manage any complications that may arise.

DO YOU CORRECT LIPS?

DermaSecrets can correct lips however we will only do so if the original treatment was performed by a doctor, nurse or dentist and in a Healthcare Improvement Scotland (HIS) regulated clinic.  We will also require a copy of your treatment note from the orginal clinic.  Often, correction of lips will involve dissolving the dermal filler.  The starting price of lip correction work is £250.
